He's a Dream Come True

On Monday evening, my son Isaiah and his classmates from chorus had the opportunity to perform a song at our town's board of education meeting.  This was an evening my son couldn't wait for. I didn't have to coerce him to wear his dress shoes, that's how excited he was about the performance. He doesn't enjoy dressing up as much as I would like, but last night he made sure he looked good.

After his performance, his school principal came over to speak to me. The first thing that came to mind was, what did Isaiah do now. I say this because my little guy is very sociable and talkative. I have had notes sent home and received e-mails from his teachers about my little chatter box. In first grade he had quite a few "quiet lunches" with his teacher, which to me is nicer way of saying detention. His behavior both at home and school has caused me to doubt myself and my abilities as a mother.

The words that came out of her mouth nearly brought me to tears. She couldn't stop talking about how musically gifted Isaiah is. She shared how she can't imagine where his gifts will take him. All I could do was nod in agreement. I told her that's why we chose his school as our first choice. She ended our conversation with these words:

He’s a dream come true.

WOW! What a statement! Isaiah is a dream come true!

Her words reminded me how blessed I am to have my son. There is no such thing as a perfect child or parent. I have to stop being so hard on myself when things are not going the way I expect them to go. I may not always get it right as his mom, but I will continue to  be the best mom I can be. Instead of dwelling on what I see as failures, I need to celebrate the successes. It's my prayer that as he grows older things will change. I also believe that God will continue to equip me to be the mom I am destined to be.

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, I want to say thank you to everyone who has poured into our lives especially over these last five years. Thank you for your love, support and guidance.

May these next few days be filled with nothing, but love and great food!

Your girl,

Wodline
